Penguins Season Recap: March
The Olympics were over and players returned to their respective teams as they prepared for the home stretch of the 09-10 season. With only six weeks left and the playoffs looming large the Penguins looked to come out of the break on fire and that is exactly what they did by winning four games in a row to begin the month. However, after that four game winning streak the Pens played pretty much .500...

Penguins Season Recap: February
In a month that featured only a handful of games and was highlighted by the Vancouver Olympics, the Pens were focused on heading down the home stretch strong. Coming out of the Olympics only a little more than a month remained in the season. Any points they could get before the break would be crucial for the playoffs and winning the division. In every game but one during February the Pens...

Penguins Season Recap: January
As month of January opened with the Pens on a three game losing streak and looking to end it. Unfortunately for the Pens they would extend that losing streak to five games before recording a win. During the month the Pens also headed out to Western Canada to face off against Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver. The Pens defeated two of those three teams. January also marked the first meeting between...

Penguins Season Recap: December
The Penguins began the third month of the season looking to keep up their hot streak they started at the end of November. They began the month on the right foot by defeating the up start Avs in the first game of the month. That was followed up by maybe the most entertaining game of the month against the Blackhawks. Even minus Sidney Crosby the Pens played a terrific game. Antti Niemi was almost...

Penguins Season Recap: November
As the Pens opened the second month of the season they were hoping that their hot October play would carry over into November. To begin the month they started out on a four game road trip that included a three game West Coast trip where they visited Anaheim, Los Angeles, and San Jose. They concluded the road trip back in Boston. Everything seemed to be going well until the third period in Los...

Penguins Season Recap: October
October is a great month for hockey fans. This year though it was even more special. This year our beloved Penguins were going to open the 2009-2010 season as the defending Stanley Cup Champions. They were also opening the final season at the Mellon Arena. On October 2 over 17,000 fans packed the Mellon Arena to watch the Penguins add a third Stanley Cup banner to the rafters of Old Lady Mellon...

Conference Finals Predictions
Eastern Conference (7) Philadelphia Flyers v. (8) Montreal Canadiens The Skinny: The Flyers are coming off a grueling seven game series that saw them come back from 3-0 down to do the un-thinkable and win the series 4-3. The series also cost them their top goalie. The Canadiens are coming off their second straight seven game series where they advanced over the Pens 4-3. Jaroslav Halak and Mike...

Round 3 Playoff Match-ups
It pain me to write this for two reasons. Not only are the Pens not in the Conference Finals but the Flyers rallied from a 3-0 series deficit to come back and beat Boston in Game 7 to win the series and become the third team in NHL history to rally from a 3-0 deficit to win the series. I think for this round, even though they eliminated us, we are all Montreal fans. Eastern Conference (7)...

Love This Team
Not much to say about tonight’s game. All I will say is that I will stand by this team to the bitter end. Yes, they are frustrating to watch at times but I will never stop loving them. They are the only team I have ever known and the only team I will ever love. They are my life. Even in the offseason they are all I think about. I eat, sleep, and breathe Pens hockey. This loss will never...

Defend This Old House One Last Time
Everyone hockey fan knows what tonight means. We have all been here before. Just 11 short months ago we watched our beloved Penguins go into Detroit and rip the Stanley Cup from their hands. Game 7 in the Stanley Cup playoffs is the best moment in sports. Two teams fighting to stay alive. At the end of tonight only one will move on. Two teams who have fought so hard will play one game to decide...

Crack Halak: Pens/Habs Preview
Just three weeks ago this was seen as an improbable match-up. There was no way the Canadiens were going to upset Washington in the first round. Now, just three weeks later here we are. The Pens are the top seed remaining in the Eastern Conference are will be hosting the team who did the improbable. This will be the first playoff meeting between the two teams since 1998. It’s hard to imagine that...

2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs Preview: Round 2
My preview and predictions for the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Let’s begin with the Western Conference. Western Conference (1) San Jose Sharks v. (5) Detroit Red Wings —Maybe the hardest series for me to figure out. The Sharks found a way to get past the first round while Detroit went the distance with Phoenix. If not for Dan Boyle the Sharks could have won their...

The Defense Continues
As we all know by now there was an epic collapse in Washington tonight. The Caps blew a 3-1 series lead to the Montreal Canadiens to fall in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. I’m not going to stress on how happy I am that Washington is gone or how embarrassing Mike Green is. We have bigger fish to fry. We are still trying to defend what is rightfully ours. I will have all the...

Are There Any Golf Courses in Ottawa?
Just when things looked their bleakest. Just when you thought there would be a Game 7 on Tuesday night at the Mellon. Just as Daniel Alfredsson put the Senators up 3-0 in the second period. Just as you were about to run outside and punch your car, something happened. Something happened that changed the whole game and ended the Senators season. What that thing was, we may never know, but it did in...

MS is a terrible disease
and it effects so many people. Including my mother. Money donated to the MS Society helps not only with research, but funds go to medicine payments which can be as high as 1800 per month for drugs that help with the suppression of pain and helps to stop progression. The MS society has helped my mom and so many others for those reasons and so many more.  I understand that money is tight for...

It All Starts Here: Pens/Sens Round 1
Last season the Penguins began the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs as the fourth overall seed in the Eastern Conference. Johnson Resigned
Today the Pittsburgh Penguins resigned backup goalie Brent Johnson to a two year contract extension through the 2012 season. This is a huge signing for the Pens and will sure up their goal tending situation. Johnson has posted a solid year playing as mostly a back up to Marc-Andre Fleury.

Sometimes, they call me Maurice.
Sidney Crosby has done it. He made history this evening. He became the first Pittsburgh Penguin to win the Rocket Richard Trophy for the most goals in a single season since the trophy was originated in 1999.  He tied for the league lead in goals this season with twenty year old Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Each player notched 51 goals this season. It is the first Richard Trophy for...

Thank You Pittsburgh Penguins!
For being the amazing, wonderful team we are all proud to call ourselves fans of. Tonight’s game was just proof of how much the team loves and appreciates the history the team has and the talent and strength it has now.  Sid racked his 500th point and 50th goal of the season, and Geno had a warm welcome back with a goal. Other goals were scored by Billy Guerin, Tyler Kennedy, Brooks Orpik,...

Mellon Memories
New York has Madison Square Garden and Yankee Stadium, Boston has Fenway Park, Chicago has Wrigley Field, Los Angeles has the Rose Bowl, but none of them are a unique as what Pittsburgh has. The Mellon Arena. The oldest hockey in the NHL has been home to our beloved Pittsburgh Penguins since their inaugural season in 1967. Since then the Penguins have played over 1,600 games inside the Igloo....
