2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs Preview: Round 2
My preview and predictions for the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Let’s begin with the Western Conference.
Western Conference
(1) San Jose Sharks v. (5) Detroit Red Wings
—Maybe the hardest series for me to figure out. The Sharks found a way to get past the first round while Detroit went the distance with Phoenix. If not for Dan Boyle the Sharks could have won their series a lot quicker. I’m still not sold on Jimmy Howard in goal. He looked shaky at moments but great at other times. Sharks in 7
(2) Chicago Blackhawks v. (3) Vancouver Canucks
—What a series this should be. These two met in last year’s second round where Chicago won 4-2. Neither team likes the other very much. Should be an entertaining series. Both went six games in round one. Both can score. The difference will be in goal. Can Niemi hold up for the ‘Hawks? Can they shut down the Sedin twins. If so, they win the series. ‘Hawks in 7
Eastern Conference
(4) Pittsburgh Penguins v. (8) Montreal Canadiens
—Full preview of this series coming later on. My quick pick though, Pens in 6.
(6) Boston Bruins v. (7) Philadelphia Flyers
—This will by far be the most physical series of the second round. The winner may be lucky to survive to play the next round. The Flyers are devastated by injuries but have found solid goalie play from veteran Brian Boucher. The Bruins are coming in healthy and are anticipating the return of star forward Marc Savard for this series. Tuuka Rask has also been great in goal for Boston. Have to go with the healthy team on this one. Bruins in 7
Look for my full preview of the Pens/Habs series coming tomorrow.
